(Pre- Write) What do you know about the spread of disease in the global community?

What I know about the spread of disease is one way of the that rapid spread of diseases is by transportation. The way in which a disease is carried out to other parts of the world is by the way of people carrying disease to and from foreign places back to their original country. Take AIDS for example, it was started in Africa and then with travelers and tourist going to Africa they contract the disease and brought it over to their country. Little by little generating the disease one person at a time. As far as anything else goes I have to say that I am not very informed about the way in which disease occurs. Is there only one way disease is spread throughout the world? What places in the world is disease a major crisis? How peoples lives have to been impacted by the spread of disease. I have many questions in store about the spread of disease that I hope to get answered when learning about the spread of disease in class, and also by doing outside class research for our assignment number three. Is culture a factor in certain diseases a person is more prone to contracting? What are the top five global diseases that we are battling with today? How can people like me help people in far away places, like India and China? How can I help America? What are disease that America is having to deal with?

What disease are we here in America trying to fight? What i will build on is the definition of a pandemic- an infectious disease that spreads at a rapid rate targeting large amounts of people and countries concurrently. I want to learn about the services that are provided in America and around the world.

How is your semester going so far?

My semester is going pretty good. This semester is have become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and have been doing very well in all my classes. Aside from the little mishap that happened here with the notice of Academic Difficulty, I have yet to receive any form of Notice of Academic Difficulty. I dorm here on campus and have a cool roommate, last year my roommate and I had issues, and I hate to speak before the first semester ends, but I am feelings rather at peace with the whole living situation this time around.

This semester I have taken a liking in the subject of anatomy. I am taking anatomy online and have been doing better than average, just last week we had two quizzes and I scored 90% on both of them, an 18 out of 20, twice. When I started taking this classes I wasn't interested, because it was an online course and I figured that it would be a lot more difficult for me, but as the semester is nearly over I have formed sort of positive feeling about online classes.

As far as the rest of my classes go I feel good about going to class everyday and enjoy learning new things. I can't wait to see what my grade point average is this semester. :D!!!!!!

How many times have you gone to Alexandria House? What did you do?Whom did you work with? What did you learn? How did you feel/ do differently?

I have gone to Alexandria House two times thus far. Both times I've gone I have had the opportunity to work with Lucia, from Alexandria House, along with classmate Sandra- Jade Leinter. The tasks that Sandra and I had were working in the clothing area in the backyard, folding and organizing donated clothes in categories of; women, men, girls, boys, and baby's. I have to say that when I first was asked to fold clothes I thought to myself, "that's it, I'm going to be folding clothes." When going the second times I had a new question in store, "how can people charish what so little they may have." Seeing the people come to the backyard of were the clothes were with happy attitudes made me see that I was the person who was blessed enough to fold clothes. I gained a more open minded view of people who have very little. I'm not to feel sad for the people but to see them as equals who have much to look forward to in life as does any other person. It was amazing to me that people were thankful for the donated clothing that were at there service. What I learned about working at Alexandria House, is to appreciate what you have, literally, like such little privilege as buying new clothing. Next time I plan to maybe interact with the people a little more, by saying, hello, and maybe even direct them to what it is that they are looking for. I plan to continue going to Alexandria House even after my hours are up. :).
